Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka was born on 3 July 1883 in Prague, into a German-speaking Jewish family. He studied law at university and worked as an insurance investigator throughout most of his professional life. Although he found success in his career, Kafka felt frustrated due to the time constraints it put on his primary passion, writing. Kafka’s writing was first published in 1908, and he then continued to write for literary periodicals and was courted by avant-garde publishers in Berlin. His work garnered him moderate attention from the German literary community during his lifetime. Kafka died of tuberculosis on 3 June 1924.
