E. Nesbit
Edith Nesbit was born on 15 August 1858 in Surrey. She spent an unpredictable and unusual childhood attending boarding schools in England and travelling across Europe.
Nesbit first began publishing poetry to supplement her husband’s irregular income and support their growing family. Soon she began producing copious amounts of writing – novels, short stories, non-fiction and poetry – for both children and adults. Nesbit was also an outspoken socialist and frequently wrote and lectured about socialism, often in terms of its relationship to women.
On May 4 1924, she died at her house, 'Long Boat'.
