George Orwell
George Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair on 25 June 1903 in Motihari, in present-day Bihar, India. He explored a variety of different career paths throughout his life- acting as a colonial offer in Burma, a writer, a teacher and a bookseller. In the first few years of his writing career, Orwell developed a lifelong affinity for crafting social commentary that was often reflective of his own experiences. He also participated in the Spanish Civil War and was a producer for the BBC’s Eastern Service during World War II.
On 21 January 1950, he died of tuberculosis, shortly after the publication of Nineteen Eighty-Four.
