H. G. Wells

Herbert George Wells was born in Kent on 21 September 1866. Although his education was repeatedly disrupted due to his family's financial struggles, Wells was a gifted student and went on to attain a BSc in Zoology from the University of London. His first published work was a textbook of Biology.

As his literary career took off, Wells became famous for his widely read works of science fiction. He later became more interested in politics, socialism and diplomacy. Although he was criticized by his contemporaries for prioritizing his political career over his literary one, Wells continued to balance the two for the rest of his life. He spent his final years appalled by the events of the Second World War and died on 13 August 1946.
