Synopsis

Written towards the beginning of the seventeenth century, Othello is considered one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. Set in Venice, it explores themes of race, ambition, jealousy, and revenge as it tells the story of the Moorish general Othello. The play has been adapted extensively across the theatre, film, television, and radio. Margaret Webster’s American production of Othello was performed an impressive 296 times on Broadway, the highest to date for any Shakespearean play.
