D. H. Lawrence

David Henry Lawrence was born on 11 September 1885 in the English coal-mining town of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. The dissimilarities between his parents led to constant discord, and his mother urged her children to overcome their working-class roots.

After becoming a certified teacher, Lawrence focused on his writing. He became disillusioned after receiving backlash for his more controversial writing and chose self-imposed exile in New Mexico.

After returning to Europe due to his visa lapsing and a tuberculosis diagnosis, Lawrence wrote bold books like Lady Chatterley’s Lover. On 2 March 1930, he died, one day after discharging himself from a French sanatorium.
